See how the Oysters’ Biosphere is rebounding after a long history of habitat destruction by human activity. Oyster restoration is a good reason to get your hands dirty. Or, just let the guide get dirty bringing you a first hand experience with these unassuming and underestimated heroes… Not many places remain where it is safe and delicious to eat oysters. Matanzas Oysters fetch a premium being a delicacy for their clean texture and limited supplies.# Get a taste for restoring the Oysters Habitat.
Depending on tide and currentsPlay in currents and safely glide over and around the oysters' mounds with the help of your guide. For low tide we investigate spoil and mangrove islands. But experienced kayakers may be taken into the maze of Oysters. Good paddle control is required when the swift currents around Oyster Reefs are ripping. Mid tide is actually the trickiest to avoid scraping to a halt on the Oysters hiding just below the surface. But if you remain present and read the ripples of the water, we can navigate a fun and disorienting oyster reef field.
Lessons are available for those who want to chase the Epic Adventure during ripping tidal flows. There's a time of tide for everyone. Speak with our guides before booking if you have any concerns. We will always launch at the best time of tide for your skill level.
*Chances to see animals are good, especially in the morning and evening. We do not guarantee you will see every animal you wish, but we do guarantee a safe and enjoyable adventure.
What to Bring:
Drinking water, sunscreen, bug spray, waterproof camera/phone, with a bunch of friends and family. Tipping your guide is encouraged. Cash is best.
What to Wear:
Shoes that will stay on your feet, a hat, quick dry clothing, sunglasses. Long sleeve UV guard and pants are recommended on mid-day and longer trips.
